5 Facts You Didn’t Know About E-Cigarettes

Posted by Admin on 1st Mar 2020

Enjoyed by thousands of adults all over the world, vaping is the popular alternative to traditional cigarette smoking. Whether it’s the tasty and endless supply of e-liquid flavours, that it’s cheaper than cigarettes, or the fact that there’s no smoke, it looks like vaping is here to stay as a pastime.

But where did this social habit come from? What did the first e-cig look like? And do e-cigarettes contain nicotine? At VapeKing, we’re here to drop 5 facts that you didn’t know about the art of vaping and the device behind it.

Not all e-cigarettes contain nicotine

You might have heard from cynics that claim all e-cigarettes contain nicotine, but in Australia, it is illegal to sell or supply nicotine. Here at VapeKing, we take our responsibility very seriously. That’s why none of our products contain nicotine. So, you’re free to enjoy all the flavours on offer without having to think about inhaling any nasty chemicals.

E-cigarettes were invented in China

Vaping isn’t a new concept. In fact, studies have shown that the Ancient Egyptians did engage in some form of vaping, although it was more for religious reasons. It wasn’t until 2003 that a 52-year-old pharmacist from Beijing, China, named Hon Lik, developed the modern electronic cigarette that we know and love today. Hon was motivated by the death of his father, who passed away from lung cancer. Having smoked two packs per day himself, Hon started his journey with the goal of replacing his habit with something different. From there, the concept of e-cigarettes was born.

Initially, China had little interest in e-cigs

It’s hard to believe that e-cigarettes had struggling sales in China, but it’s true. Only when the product went to market in the US and Europe did e-cigarettes really take off in the country that they were manufactured in. At one point, Hon Lik was so busy in keeping up with the demand for more e-cigs, despite producing them 24 hours a day! Now, it’s a billion-dollar industry with no signs of slowing down.

The first e-cigarette model was called Ruyan

“Ruyan”, which means “like smoke”, consisted of three parts: a battery, a plastic cartridge, and an ultrasonic atomiser. Since then, there have been many iterations that have involved much more modifications and complex parts, all to make for a more heightened, better vaping experience for you. That’s why there’s a huge market for mods,

Cloud chasing is a real thing

Trust us humans to turn something like a hobby into a sport, and vaping is no different. ‘Cloud chasing’ refers to an objective during a vaping competition. It’s all about who can create the biggest and most majestic vapour billows. And, despite cloud chasing not being part of an official organisation like, let’s say the UFC, there’s no doubt that it’s a lot of fun for competitors and spectators alike.
